Boy Scout Rank Requirement Changes
Along with the Year of Celebration marking Scouting’s 100th anniversary comes a real collector’s item: The centennial edition of The Boy Scout Handbook, which carries several rank requirement changes that go into effect Jan. 1, 2010:
Tenderfoot

A Scout must teach another person how to tie a square knot using the EDGE model (explain, demonstrate, guide, and enable). He also must be able to discuss four specific examples of how he lived the points of the Scout Law in his daily life.
Second Class

Mountain District Advancement Day
The Mountain District Cub Scout Advancement Day is coming up on Novermber 1st. See the attached document for details.
Internet Advancement
Process online ranks and awards for packs, troops, teams, crews, ships, and posts.
Internet Advancement makes it easy for unit leadership to record awards, ranks, and merit badges to youth with an online process. This system is separate from Internet Rechartering, but uses a similar concept and is available from the council web site.
Board of Review Training
An important part of the Boy Scout advancement process is the board of review (BOR). The attached Powerpoint presentation explains the BOR process. This presentation takes about thirty minutes and can be taught in a group or reviewed individually. Sitting on BORs is a great way to get new parents involved. Thanks to Neil Carriker for helping develop this presentation.
2008 Collegedale Merit Badge Clinic
John Ross district is hosting the 2008 Collegedale Merit Badge Clinic on October 4th at the Collegedale Police department. All Boy Scouts are invited.
